The qualification adds significant value to the qualifying learner in terms of the: *personal construction of a well-founded knowledge framework within the field of research, but particularly with regard to the subject discipline; *development of an advanced set of skills with reference to scientific research on problems of an original nature; *fostering of a fundamental scientific and critical scientific and critical research attitude; *inherent fixation of scientific and academic values, like objectivity, structure, reliability, validity, accuracy, coherence, logic and ethical obedience; *enhancement of marketability and employability within discipline related fields; *provision of status with regard to obtaining the right to be called "doctor" (in the scientific sense); and *creation of opportunities to register formally with scientific and professional associations and bodies within or related to the subject discipline, eventually exposing the qualifying learner to the international community of the subject specialists. |
