Registered-data under construction The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered. |

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |
1. To develop a wide choice of stimulating modules in different disciplines (Anthropology, Archeology, Criminology, Sociology, Psychology, Development Studies, Public Administration and Political Science) which will lead to career opportunities.
2. To provide qualifiers with knowledge and skills in the respective study field, as well as research skills and life-long independent and critical cognitive abilities. 3. To equip learners with the ability to apply tools of research in real life situations to the benefit of the community. 4. To contribute as experts in their field of study to the improvement of the public and the private sector. |
LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING |
RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING:
At least a recognized first degree. Exception, persons with a first degree from another faculty with suitable previous experience and input into applicable programmes in their study fields e. g. at NGO's, may be allowed to register for the qualification. Recognition of prior learning will depend on the requirements of the various departments. |

ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA |
1. Select a researchable topic in the appropriate field and follow scientific procedures. Discussion during seminar presentations.
2. To have a clear vision of what is expected of them and what must be gained through the use of correct various skills of research. 3. Learners to understand the quality of his work. Appointed internal and external examiners and or supervisors as well as peer reviews will actually assess the quality of the work of the qualifiers to ensure that appropriate standards are researched or achieved at the exit levels. 4. Selection and utilization of correct data analysis methods in interpreting findings of an Investigation. 5. Report the findings of the investigation in writing showing the qualifier can express himself clearly. 6. Embark on the literature study of the field To show historical background and knowledge To choose the appropriate correct approaches design methods for the research project. To demonstrate ability to organise independently as well as collectively. To be able to evaluate, interpret findings and offer recommendation of the research report. 7. Typed research project showing high quality standard and a clear scientific layout. To be able to drawn an alphabetical bibliography acceptable to the department 8. Summative method: This will include amongst others, open book examinations and semester examinations (depending on the various departments concerned). |
ARTICULATION OPTIONS |
Vertically articulation: students with a B. Soc. SC. (Hons) may enrol for the M. Soc. SC. Programme at Fort Hare or any other university.
Horizontally articulation: This includes internally articulation as well as interfaculty articulation depending on the learners past experience on the various departments assessment of the learners suitability for enrolment for the qualification. |
MODERATION OPTIONS |
Members of the department with at least a Masters degree as well as external assessors will be chosen with expertise in similar modules and with research experience. Members from well recognized research and professional bodies who are well qualified in those appropriate areas of the research problem could serve as moderators. |
CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS |
University academic staff members will be experts in the subject field with at least a Masters degree or PhD to serve as internal examiners. |
