Registered-data under construction

The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

 

In all of the tables in this document, both the pre-2009 NQF Level and the NQF Level is shown. In the text (purpose statements, qualification rules, etc), any references to NQF Levels are to the pre-2009 levels unless specifically stated otherwise.  

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
To create a thoroughly functional and professional artists, capable of fulfilling any exigency implied by the concepts of art and culture, art and education and art and Heritage, while at the same time forging a reputation with the avante garde in South Africa.

The young learner and those who have achieved status within artistic studios will come to understand the soul and spirituality of the discipline that is visual art, and through this will come as an understanding, commitment and competency that will become a way of life. The dedication implied by this activity will create the framework for success in the visual arts. In this way for many years the learner will be able to conduct relevant acquired skills attitude and knowledge responsibly and meaningfully with the larger context of art and culture in Southern Africa. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.

Entry Requirements:
The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is:
  • Bachelor of Arts Honours in Fine Arts, NQF Level 8.

    1. Learners demonstrate the capacity to design, conduct and write extended essays which can respectably stand alongside refereed and published research in the same field and have practical application in societal context.
    2. Learners demonstrate an understanding of visual discipline procedures and an ability to cope with research techniques.
    3. Learners demonstrate an understanding of literature and visual images related to the research problem.
    4. Learners demonstrate the ability to write an extended that is linguistically acceptable. 

    ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
    Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcomes 1:
  • Write research proposals that indicate that learners are able to identify a problem or problems in fine arts, and formulate research problems and subsets of problems and subsets of problems.
  • Formulate hypotheses.
  • Select and utilise research instruments that are relevant in research of problems in education.
  • Select and use appropriate data analysis methods to interpret the findings of an investigation.
  • Conduct fieldwork during the actual investigation.
  • Report the findings of the investigation, and formulate, recommendations that emanate from the findings.

    Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcomes 2:
  • Identify and analyse different scientific/creative procedures in terms of the problem being researched.

    Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcomes 3:
  • Critically read, interpret and analyse literature from different sources.
  • Search for information on the identified research problem.
  • Compare the writings of different authors on the same related topic.
  • Synthesise reading material on the topic being researched.
  • Draw conclusions from different visual images, readings and indicate anomalies.
  • Create a theoretical framework provided by the visual images and literature review.
  • Compile a complete bibliography.

    Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcomes 4:
  • Write an extended essay that shows that the learner can express him/herself clearly.
  • Write an extended essay that is linguistically correct, acceptable and of a high standard.
  • Write an extended essay that is technically well presented and has an acceptable layout.

    Integrated Assessment:
    Summative: Examinations.
    Formative: Ongoing practicals, seminars, tutorials, lectures.
