PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The primary purpose of this qualification is to provide qualifying learners with applied competence in the analysis, interpretation and application of management principles in the fitness and health, coaching, teaching and retailing sectors of the Sport Industry. The learner should further be able to take strategic decisions in the context of a sport organisation. The learner should also be able to reflect on his/her managerial decisions and applications to access the effect thereof in the holistic context of Sport Management as practice. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Learners accessing this qualification should demonstrate their ability to read, analyse and reflect on study material and relevant literature on a graduate level (NQF level 6). Learners should be able to communicate effectively using academic Afrikaans/English in written or oral form. Learners should be able to manage their own study programme and time effectively. Learners should have acquired applied competence in Sport Management and be able to take strategic decisions in a Sport Management context.

Access will be provided to the learner who is in possession of a degree or any related qualification with a programme specific minimum level of competency on NQF level 6, generating a minimum of 360 credits.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

Recognition of prior learning in the case of learners not complying with the formal entry requirements will be conducted in accordance with the policy and guidelines of the University concerning the recognition of other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning experience. Recognition takes place only where prior learning corresponds with the required NQF-level, and in terms of applied competencies relevant to the content and outcomes of the qualification. Through recognition of prior learning learners may gain access, or advanced placement, or recognition of status, on condition that they continue their studies at this University.

Formative assessment practices that will be implemented:

Formative assessment is aimed at development of a life-long learning culture based on continuous self-study and compromises the following: practical and class assignments, essays, presentations, informal class tests, formal module tests in written or oral mode; research that leads to scientific assignments, self-assessment and group-assessment.

Summative assessment practices that will be implemented:

Integrated assessment, focusing on the achievement of the exit-level outcomes, will be done by means of a 3 hour written examination at the end of each module on the study material covered in the module or other modules already passed. 

ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
1. Access to qualifications on a lower level:
Learners who wish to gain access to certificates, diplomas or degrees on NQF level 5 or 6 may be allowed, subject to approval by the Dean and panel of participating departments.

2. Access to qualifications on the same level:
Learners who are (or have been) registered for the same or another related qualification (or even for some related modules at another higher education or accredited training institution) will be allowed, with the permission of the Dean of the Faculty of Management and Economic Science (RAU), to enter on the same level, given the rules of access have been complied with. Such learners will, therefore, retain credit for relevant modules that have passed at the previous institution.

3. Access to qualifications on a higher level:
Having obtained this qualification, the following possibilities for further study in higher education programs exist: a Honours degree (NQF level 7) in Sport Management and related learning areas at any higher education institution which offers a Sport Management programme; a Post-graduate Diploma in Sport Management (NQF level 8) and related learning areas at any higher education institution. 

MODERATION OPTIONS 
External examiners will be appointed by the Faculty of Economic and Management Science upon recommendation by the Department of Sport and Movement Studies at this institution.
At least one and external examiner per module will be appointed. External examiners will be selected from different higher institutions in South Africa or abroad according to their experience. 

CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
Formal qualified assessors for assessing learning in terms of foundational, practical and reflexive outcomes per module at the NQF level 7 will be appointed. The lecturer of the module will be accepted as an assessor. All internal and external assessors (moderators and examiners) will be nominated by the Faculty of Economic and Management Science in consultation with the Department of Sport and Movement Studies (RAU) for this purpose and registered with the appropriate ETQA, requiring them to comply with the other criteria imposed by the relevant SGB.

Examiners external to the University (RAU) and with specialist academic knowledge in the relevant modules serve as external moderators for modules in the qualification. At least one external and one internal examiner per module will be appointed. The lecturer of the module will serve as an internal examiner.

Assessors should be SAQA accredited, with assessment experience in the related field of study.

As per the SAQA Board decision/s at that time, this qualification was Reregistered in 2006.
