| PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |
| The primary purpose of this qualification is to provide qualifying learners with the basic applied competence in the mastering, analysis, interpretation and understanding of human resource management and to develop diagnostic skills for line managers and human resource specialists as qualified practitioners.
This programme will prepare learners to reflect on their own applications of human resource management to approach the management of people in organisation in a specific and responsible manner. Lastly it will prepare them for further study in human resource management. |
| LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING |
| Learners assessing this qualification should demonstrate their ability to read, analyse and reflect on advanced study material and relevant literature on graduate level (NQF 6).
Learners should be able to communicate using academic Afrikaans/English in written and oral form. Learners must be able to manage their own study programme and time. A potential learner should be in possession of an undergraduate degree, preferably with a subject from the behavioural sciences as major, or a three year IPM Diploma in Human Resource Management, or a three year Technikon Diploma in Human Resource Management (on NQF level 6). RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING Current competencies acquired by prior learning in this field through related experience will be assessed. Application for entry will be assessed (specifics still to be determined) by an accreditation committee of the Department of Human Resources Management (RAU), upon which the Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences (RAU) will approve the assessment. If an applicant does not meet the admittance requirements stated, a route for further studies will be suggested by the Departmental Committee. Such competencies may help gain access to the programme or advanced placement in it. |

(Employment seeking skills) Formative assessment practices that will be implemented: Learners are assessed continually via individual seminars, practical analyses and discussion questions designed to measure individuals' progress levels relating to comprehension, integration and application. A modular mark is calculated based on the results achieved on the seminars, essays, and practical analyses. A minimum modular mark of 40% is required for examination entry. Summative assessment practices that will be implemented: Integrated assessment, focusing on the achievement of the exit-level outcomes, will be done by means of a written 3 hour examinations will be conducted for each module. A final mark will be calculated based on the average of the test and examination mark. |
| ARTICULATION OPTIONS |
| 1. Access to qualifications on a lower level:
Learners who wish to gain access to certificates, diplomas or degrees on NQF level 4,5 or 6 be allowed, subject to approval by the Dean and panel of participating departments. 2. Access to qualifications on the same level: Learners who are (or have been) registered for this or another related qualification (or even for some of the same related subjects) at another high educational institution, will be allowed to enter mid-stream. Such learners will retain credit for modules that have been passed, after recognition by the previous institution and the Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences (RAU). If learners want to continue their studies at another higher educational institution, they may switch towards the end of the first or the second semester. The following possibilities for continuation of studies within other higher education programmes exist i.e. B. Com Hons (Human Resource Management) / BA Hons (Human Resource Management) on NQF level 7 Learners who want to switch to another qualification or other modules at this institution, may do so subject to certain time limits. They will retain full credit fore modules that have been passed. 3. Access to qualifications on a higher level: Having obtained this qualification, the following possibilities for further study of higher education programme exist namely a M.Com/M.A programme (NQF level 8) in Human Resource Management. |
| MODERATION OPTIONS |
| Both internal and external examiners are appointed by the Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences upon recommendation by the Department of Human Resource Management at this institution.
External moderation will also occur within the teaching and lecturing of the programme. These processes still need to be developed. At least one internal examiner per module will be appointed. Internal examiners with at least an honours degree will be selected from within the University. |
| CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS |
| Formal qualified assessors for assessing learners in terms of foundational, practical and reflexive outcomes per module, with at least an honours degree on NQF level 7 in the related field of study, will be appointed by the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences of this institution upon recommendation by the particular department.
Assessors should have job related or learning area experience to be able to act as assessors. Assessors should be SAQA accredited with assessment experience in the related field of study. |
