PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The purpose of this qualification is to provide qualifying learners with applied competence, on a post-graduate level, in the mastering, analysis, interpretation and understanding economic principles and methods, with a special focus on Econometric techniques.

This programme will prepare learners to reflect on their own economic applications to assess the effect thereof in the holistic context of Economics as a social science within their everyday lives and lastly, it will prepare them for further study in Economics and Econometrics as a science. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Learners accessing this qualification should have demonstrated a basic understanding of economic principles and methods and a potential to advance to higher levels of understanding. Learners should be able to communicate effectively using academic Afrikaans/English in written and oral form. Learners must be able to manage their own study programme and time effectively. Learners must have required applied competence in Economics and Econometrics.

A potential learner should be in possession of a Bachelors Degree on NQF level 6 and a major in Economics as well as appropriate background in Econometrics and/or Statistics (NQF level5). If the average mark for modules in Economics on NQF level 6 (Monetary Theory and Policy (2C.1), The Economics of Developing Countries (2C.2), International Trade Theory and Policy (2D.1), Public Sector Economics (2D.2), Modern Market Economics (3A.1), International Monetary Analysis (3A.2), Intermediate Econometrics (3A.3), Labour Economics (3B.1), Economic Analysis and Money and Capital Markets (3B.2), Intermediate Time Series Analysis (3B.3), Economic Growth Theories (3C.1), Contemporary Macroeconomic Theories (3C.2), Advanced Microeconomic Topics (3D.1) and Advanced Microeconomic Topics B (3D.2)) lies between 50% and 59%, only two of the five modules may be taken during the first year of study.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

Recognition of prior learning in the case of learners not complying with the formal entry requirements will be conducted in accordance with the policy and guidelines of the University concerning the recognition of other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. Recognition takes place only where prior learning corresponds to the required NQF-level, and in terms of applied competencies relevant to the content and outcomes of the qualification. Through recognition of prior learning learners may gain access, or advanced placement, or recognition of status, on condition that they continue their studies at this University.

Formative assessment practices that will be implemented:

Learners are continually assessed via written and/or practical class assignments, essays and formal written and/or practical tests which will be utilised as an entry requirement for exam purposes. A minimum mark of 40 % per module is required for entry into summative assessments.
Learners will also need to complete written and practical assignments.

Summative assessment practices that will be implemented:

Integrated assessment, focusing on the achievement of the exit-level outcomes, will be done by means of written and/or practical (computerised) 3 hour examinations. A final mark will be calculated on the average of the modular and exam mark. 

ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
1. Access to qualifications on a lower level:
The learner will be able to access to certificates on NQF level 5 or 6, diplomas on level 5 or 6 or a degree on NQF level 6 in the field of Economics.

2. Access to qualifications on the same level:
Learners who are (or have been) registered for this or another related qualification (or even for some of the related subjects) at another high educational institution, will be allowed to enter mid-stream. Such learners will retain credit for modules that have been passed, after recognition by the previous institution and the Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences (RAU).

Learners who want to switch to another educational qualification or other modules at this institution, may do so subjects to certain time limits. They will retain full credit for modules that have been passed.

If the learners want to continue their studies at another higher educational institution, they may switch towards the end of the first or the second semester. The following possibilities for continuation of studies within other education programmes exist i.e. another B.Com Hons-degree programme (NQF level 7) at this or any other university.

3. Access to qualifications on a higher level:
Having obtained this qualification, the following possibilities for further study of higher education programme exist namely a M. Com or a M.A. programme in Economics on NQF level 8. 

MODERATION OPTIONS 
Both internal and external examiners will be appointed by the Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences upon recommendation by the Department of Economics at this institution.

External moderation will also occur within the teaching and lecturing of the programme. These processes still need to be developed.

At least one internal and external examiner per module will be appointed. External examiners with at least a masters degree will be selected from within the different higher education institutions or other educational institutions in South Africa or abroad. 

CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
Formal qualified assessors for assessing learners in terms of foundational, practical and reflexive outcomes per module, with at least a masters degree in the related field of study, will be appointed by the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences of this institution upon recommendation by the particular department.
Assessors have job related or learning area experience to be able to act as an assessor.
Assessors should be SAQA accredited with assessment experience in the related field of study.
