| PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |
| The purpose of the dissertation qualification is to provide learners with advanced and specialised knowledge of and research skills in the field of Audiology. The qualification builds on prior graduate level knowledge and skills, in order to enhance competence in the management of people with communication disorders and their families. In this manner, the qualification promotes the learner's professional development, and enhance the range of possibilities for employment. |

| 1 Formal University entrance requirements, i.e. possession of a 4 year degree in Communication Pathology or in a allied profession.

| At the end of the programme students will demonstrate the follwing advanced levels of knowledge and skill:
1. Indepth knowledge and the application thereof in a specialised area of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. 2. Knowledge of designing research protocols using qualitative and /or qualntitative research methodologies in a specific are of study in the field of Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology. 3. Knowledge of skills in implementing, evaluating and documenting independent research in a selected area of study. In addition the student will demonstrate a professional attitude, embodying principle of confidentiality, ethical practice and respect for the dignity of all clients as well as a recognition of the need for socially accountable ad relevant research. |

| INTEGRATED ASSESSMENT
Throughout the programme students will be exposed to formative and summative assessment strategies comprising a research proposal and the dissertation, as well as extensive verbal and written feedback during research seminar presentations, research tutorials and drafts of thesis chapters. |
| ARTICULATION OPTIONS |
| Articulation possibilities exist with:
1. The Audiology programmme in M Communication Pathology 2. Postgraduate Higher Diploma in Speech-Language Pathology. 3. Other relevant programmes within the School, Faculty, University, esATI and other tertiary institutions by the carrying of credits 4. The programmes of Continuing Professional Development in the field of Communication Pathology. |
| MODERATION OPTIONS |
| The Professional Board for Speech, Language and Hearing Professions will act as the moderating body through inspections done on a regular basis.
1. Modarators and external examiners to be appointed from experts identified from within the profession (on an annual basis) by the Discipline of Speech-Language Therapy and Audiology. 2. The accreditation bodies are: The Council for Higher Education and the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) |

| Assessment will be done via internal and external assessors. In addition to the University criteria, such persons will provide evidence of
1. Registration with Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) or a similar relevant international council. 2. Registration as a constituent assessor with/by the relevant ETQA. |
