PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION

1) The purpose of the qualification is to provide further education and training to the Professional Engineers

2) The purpose of the qualification is to provide South Africa with a cadre of educationists, who will have a clear and continuously growing understanding of the methods and progress of engineering activities to acquire specific postgraduate teaching qualifications.

1) The M.Sc (Eng) students are competent to identify, assess, formulated and solve convergent and divergent engineering problems creatively and innovatively in the area of their specialisation.

2) The M.Sc (Eng) graduate is competent to perform creative, procedural and non-procedural design and synthesis of components, systems, works, products or processes, involving the performances related to the specialisation.

3) The M.Sc (Eng) graduate is competent to apply research methods. Plan and conduct investigations and experiments using appropriate equipment. Analyse, interpret and derive information from data.

4) The M.Sc (Eng) graduate is competent to use appropriate engineering methods, skills and tools relevant to the area of specialisation and assess the result they yield

5) Professional ethics and practice:
The M.Sc (Eng) graduate is critically aware of the need to act professionally and ethically and to take responsibility within own limits of competence, and is competent to exercise judgement commensurate with knowledge and experience.
