PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION

1. This is a further qualification (Honours) to provide teachers with a strong theoretical base in education, enabling possible movement into a Masters of Education (M.Ed) programme

2. To develop professional and leadership skills in educational disciplines.

Provides access to further studies in education.

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

1. A B.Paed degree, or
2. An approved teaching degree and either a postgraduate teacher's diploma or an approved three - year teaching diploma or,
3. An approved teaching degree which includes at least Education 2 (or equivalent) and any approved teacher's diploma or,
4. A diploma/diplomas that is/are equivalent to a four-year teaching qualification
5. Suitability as a student - determined in an interview

ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

INTEGRATED ASSESSMENT
Through a system of continuous assessment, based on formative assessment strategies (e.g. portfolio, reflective journals, tests, assignments) end of year examinations as well as mini-dissertation.

ARTICULATION OPTIONS

Students take courses common to other education honours degrees (e.g. B.Ed - Guidance and Counselling) within the Faculty

MODERATION OPTIONS

All courses are externally moderated.

CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS

1. Demonstration of applied competencies as an educator within an appropriate site.
2. Demonstration of acquired education and subject content competence
