  • to provide qualifiers with specialised knowledge, specific and applied competence in a dental/allied discipline that provide opportunities for continued personal intellectual growth, gainful economic activity and rewarding contributions to society.

  • Responsibility for planning, resourcing and managing are demonstrated within broad parameters and functions.

    INTEGRATED ASSESSMENT
    Assessment may consist of any of the following combinations:

  • a research report and an oral examination
  • a research report and written papers
  • a research report and an oral and a written examination. 

  • ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
    This qualification articulates vertically with all qualifications in the same discipline at level 8 of all other higher education institutions. 

    MODERATION OPTIONS 
    External moderation of the course and assessment of student progress will be done by external moderators appointed by the Faculty of Dentistry on an annual basis. Internal moderation will occur through the various departments within the Faculty, approved by Senate. The moderation bodies are both the Council for Higher Education and the Medical and Dental Professional Board. 

    CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
    An assessor must be a registered member of the Medical and Dental Professional Board and should have at two to five years experience in the particular field of Dentistry. 

    REREGISTRATION HISTORY 
    As per the SAQA Board decision/s at that time, this qualification was Reregistered in 2006.
