PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION

to provide qualifiers with specialised knowledge, specific and applied competence in a dental/allied discipline that provide opportunities for continued personal intellectual growth, gainful economic activity and rewarding contributions to society.

Display specialised scholastic an advanced research skills in a dental/allied discipline and perform a full range of advanced procedures in complex, variable and highly specialised contexts.

Possess specialised knowledge of a major dental/allied discipline, capable of information processing at the level of analysis, transformation of abstract data and concepts, and capable of formulation of appropriate responses to resolve contextually abstract dental problems.

Communicate effectively in both oral and written modes, with peers and the broader community using appropriate structure, style and graphic support.

Assume responsibility for planning, resourcing and managing processes within the broader parameters and functions and assume complete accountability for determining, achieving and evaluating personal and/or group output.

ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

Specialised scholastic and advanced research skills are displayed in Dental/allied disciplines and a full range of advanced procedures are performed in complex, variable and highly specialised contexts.

Specialised knowledge of Dental/allied discipline is demonstrated, abstract data and concepts are processed at a level of analysis, transformation and evaluation and responses are created to resolve abstract Dental/allied problems.

Oral and written modes or communication with appropriate structure, style and graphic support are demonstrated effectively in the broader Dental/allied community.

Responsibility for planning, resourcing and managing are demonstrated within broad parameters and functions.

Personal and/or group output is optimised by complete accountability for its determination, achievement and evaluation.

INTEGRATED ASSESSMENT
Assessment may consist of any of the following combinations:

a research report and an oral examination

a research report and written papers

a research report and an oral and a written examination.

ARTICULATION OPTIONS

This qualification articulates vertically with all qualifications in the same discipline at level 8 of all other higher education institutions.

MODERATION OPTIONS

External moderation of the course and assessment of student progress will be done by external moderators appointed by the Faculty of Dentistry on an annual basis. Internal moderation will occur through the various departments within the Faculty, approved by Senate. The moderation bodies are both the Council for Higher Education and the Medical and Dental Professional Board.

CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS

An assessor must be a registered member of the Medical and Dental Professional Board and should have at two to five years experience in the particular field of Dentistry.
