| PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |
| The purpose of this qualification is to equip learners with postgraduate-level knowledge, specific skills, applied competence and the necessary attitudes in a context that prepares them for professional careers within psychology, applied psychology, human resource management, counselling, etc.
The Master of Business Administration (MBA) in the School of Business provides graduates with extensive managerial, leadership, entrepreneurial and business knowledge of topics which will help them to become leaders, managers and entrepreneurs in the business community. In addition, the practical application strategy behind the MBA provides learners with hands-on experience. Rationale for the qualification The Master of Business Administration (MBA) in the School of Business at Bond SA is one of the most demanding MBA programmes available in South Africa, and has won many international awards and competitions. The MBA program prepares candidates for top-level management positions, through a balanced blend of academic rigour coupled with extensive practical applications. Learners can choose the general stream or can specialise in Information Technology or Marketing, making the MBA relevant to the specific needs and demands of their organisations or communities. In addition, because 50% of the subjects are taught by international experts, the Bond MBA enriches the knowledge and experience of the South African business community. The MBA degree combines detailed theoretical knowledge with technical skills, in a degree programme that is relevant and responsive to the needs of society, business and industry, in South Africa and internationally. The degree will provide quality graduates for careers in business, industry and government. |
| LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING |
| It is assumed that learners who register for this qualification can communicate comprehensibly in the medium of instruction, and, with very limited guidance, take responsibility for their own progress.
Recognition of prior learning (RPL) Formal prior learning, in the form of other tertiary qualifications or undergraduate courses from a recognised university will be credited toward the Master of Business Administration in the School of Business to a maximum of half the degree, in accordance with university regulations. The granting of credit shall be subject to the approval of the dean(s) of the school(s) concerned. Applicants with substantial prior academic background in one or more of these subjects may see appropriate exemptions, with a few exceptions. Students then choose a more advanced elective from the same area in place of each subject exempted. Credit may be granted for a maximum of five subjects at the Masters level. Recognition of non-formal prior learning experience (eg, experience gained in the business world) will be assessed against specific component courses, as listed above. RPL credit will be based on a portfolio of evidence or challenge examination set by the course department, and subject to the approval of the dean(s) of the school(s) concerned. |

Assessment throughout the qualification makes use of project-based studies, integrating the assessment of the exit level outcomes at various stages in the degree process. Any applicant with a superior academic record in an area relevant to management and wishing to study further in that area may register for independent study with a selected staff member, with permission from the associate dean. This independent study project will typically be an example of integrated assessment, as it will draw upon all of the knowledge and skills of the learner, as acquired thus far. |

In addition, the Bond MBA has 2 additional exit points, the Graduate Management Qualification (GMQ) and the Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDipMgt). All credits from these qualifications can be transferred to the MBA by relinquishing the previous qualification.Upon completion of the MBA, students have a number of options for further study. |

| Lecturers of the courses set and assess assignments and examinations of all Bond SA courses. The quality is moderated by course coordinators and by the head of department. In addition, Bond University, Australia moderates questions and examinations of Bond SA.All lecturers / assessors at Bond SA are highly qualified experts in their specialist fields and hold honours and/or masters degrees in subjects appropriate to their teaching components. In addition, new staff members undergo mentoring and training by senior members of staff. |
