PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION

The primary purpose of the qualification is to provide:
1. Qualified appropriately trained professionals for South Africa with the specific knowledge, skills and attitudes that will enable them to register as specialists in Plastic Surgery with the Medical and Dental Professional Board of the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
2. Future staff for the training of registrars in Plastic Surgery in the medical schools in Southern Africa.

This qualification recognizes the formal learning which learners who register for the programme leading to the award of the qualification, bring to the learning situation:

MODERATION OPTIONS

The external assessors will moderate the exit-level outcomes at all levels on a yearly basis. The Faculty maintains a bank of external examiners as approved by Council with the necessary knowledge, academic standing, clinical/practical expertise with national and international standing, from which external assessors will be appointed on a yearly basis.

CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS

All academic staff members of the Faculty of Medicine with necessary qualifications and experience will be used as internal assessors.

As per the SAQA Board decision/s at that time, this qualification was Reregistered in 2006.
