PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION

To provide an opportunity to students to broaden their knowledge in particular disciplinary areas within the Faculty of Arts. This provides an opportunity to read extensively, to become acquainted with some of the classic texts in the discipline, to become involved in a conversation with its most important thinkers, and to take part in these debates with confidence. The solid basis that is acquired in this way, prepares the student for post-graduate research. This provides an opportunity not only to broaden but also to deepen insight in the discipline as specified.

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

Students with a B.A. degree or equivalent (NQF level 6) will be admitted into this programme. Prior learning and/or relevant experience will be recognised for entry into this programme where applicable and subject to Senate's discretion

ARTICULATION OPTIONS

Students who have completed the BA Honours will be able to continue with an MA in the specified discipline or an inter-disciplinary M Phil

MODERATION OPTIONS

Modules at this level will be moderated through an external examiner appointed by senate. The moderating body for this qualification is the Council for Higher Education

CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS

An assessor will have at least a Masters degree in the appropriate subject plus a minimum of three to five years' experience in teaching the course
