PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
To provide South Africa, Southern Africa and Africa with a significant number of graduates with scientific knowledge, specific skills and applied competence in scientific fields of specialisation, that provide career and employment opportunities for personal intellectual growth, gainful economic activity, meaning and rewarding contributions to society.

A student should have a BSc (NQF level 6) or equivalent qualification in Physics.

Integrated Assessment:

A research project of a 40-credit weighting is expected to reflect competency in all the program modules. Each module will have continuous assessments by way of tests, assignments, written practical reports and examinations. 

ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
This qualification articulates with other BSc Degrees in Agriculture, Science and Technology, can lead to an MSc in any of the scientific fields of specialisation, or enter the market place. 

MODERATION OPTIONS 
Internal second assessors and an examiner(s) will moderate all assessment. The program and qualification will be reviewed periodically by an external assessor appointed by the Senate of the University. This review will include teaching and learning methodologies, assessment practices, and the continued fitness of the program and qualification. 

CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
University of North-West staff will be utilised as assessors in accordance with the quality assurance and promotion system of the University. Qualified external assessors appointed by the Senate of the University.

As per the SAQA Board decision/s at that time, this qualification was Reregistered in 2006.
