PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
  • Equip the learner with a legal qualification that will enable him/her to enter the public sector as a prosecutor, magistrate or departmental legal adviser; or in the private sector as a legal adviser in a corporation or private institution
  • Provide the learner with legal knowledge, competence and skills which will allow him/her the opportunity for both personal and intellectual growth as well as an opportunity for gainful economic activity and rewarding contributions to society
  • Provide the learner with knowledge and understanding of the philosophy of law and the values of democratic governance, constitutionalism, the rule of law and respect for human rights
  • Enrol for articles of clerkship and qualify for admission as an attorney 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    To be admitted to the B.Proc degree, the learner must be in possession of one of the following qualifications:
  • The Matriculation Certificate of the Matriculation Board or a certificate of exemption from the matriculation examination, issued by the board; or
  • A senior school-leaving or university entrance certificate issued by the Department of Education of South Africa and endorsed to the effect that the candidate has been exempted from the matriculation examinations; or
  • A valid certificate of conditional exemption from the matriculation examination issued by the matriculation board; or
  • A valid certificate of exemption from the matriculation examination, issued by the matriculation board on the grounds of post-school qualifications

    Integrated assessment:

    Continuous assessment strategies will be employed, making use of multiple assessments to evaluate the learner and which will include, but not be limited to: regular tests,
    written assignments and
    oral presentations.

    Summative assessment will take the form of examinations. A detailed record and monitoring of learner progress will be maintained 

  • ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
    Vertical articulation:
  • Internally the learner may move vertically by enrolling for the LLB (postgraduate) and the Diploma in Legislative drafting
  • Externally the learner may move vertically by enrolling for the LLB (postgraduate) degree at other tertiary institutions and for a certificate at the school of legal practice organised by the law society of South Africa, and/or registering articles as a candidate attorney

    Horizontal articulation:
  • Internally the learner may move horizontally by transferring credits to the LLB (undergraduate) degree, B.Comm degree or related management science programmes.
  • Externally the learner may move horizontally by enrolling for the B.Comm degree or related management science programmes at other tertiary institutions in the country 

  • MODERATION OPTIONS 
    The moderation of the programme will be undertaken by the Faculty Board, the Senate and the Council of the University 

    CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
    Internal assessors will be lecturers in Vista's Law Faculty. They will be appointed on the basis of their expertise in the modules that they are teaching and are required to assess.

    External assessors will be lecturers teaching the same modules at other universities or legal practitioners who are recognised as having expertise in the relevant field
