PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The purpose of this qualification is to supply the poultry industry with competent technologists that can effectively manage poultry production units and supervise the production team
The qualifying learner will have managerial exposure to poultry production units and will be competent to manage poultry production units and apply their basic knowledge, skills and attitudes to poultry production 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
An appropriate First National Diploma: Agriculture, or an equivalent qualification of 360 credits. All poultry production electives, offered as part of the National Diploma,
must have been successfully completed
Proof of relevant experience in animal production must be supplied. Experiential training is sufficient for this purpose
Entry is also subject to a personal evaluation. This is done in order to determine whether the prospective learner has the appropriate experience, aptitude, attitude and generic capabilities to successfully complete this qualification

    Assessment is continuous and done on the following basis:

    Portfolio assessment:
  • Seminars, based on current research, must be completed and presented on at least three different managerial areas.

  • A semester test (or tests) per subject is also conducted and examination admission is achieved on a sub minimum of 40%.

  • ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
    There are articulation possibilities with Agricultural Colleges and Universities offering agricultural qualificaitons in poultry management. 

    MODERATION OPTIONS 
    Two internal examiners and an external moderator must moderate exit level examinations.

    The current SERTEC requirements regarding examiners apply.

    While South Africa still had Technikons, all of their qualifications were registered under the Committee of Technikon Principals. After the Technikons became Universities of Technology or merged with Universities, the qualifications were registered under each of these institutions, and the CTP qualifications fell away (hence the end date of 2006, above). Where relevant, replacement information is
    shown in the table above.
