PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The primary purpose of this qualification is to provide qualifying learners with intellectual competencies and practical skills in the acquisition, analysis, interpretation and application of underlying theories, models and approaches in entrepreneurship. Learners should be able to reflect on the economic realities in the Small, Medium and Macro Enterprises (SMME'S), and obtain applied competence and general life skills in entrepreneurship

The qualification will develop the learner in preparation for a career as an entrepreneur in Small, Medium and Macro Enterprises (SMME'S) 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Learners accessing this qualification should demonstrate their ability to read, analyse and reflect on complex study material and relevant literature on a post-graduate level (NQF 6). Learners should be able to communicate using academic Afrikaans/English in written and oral form to enable them to: develop a logical argument, take notes during lectures, participate in discussions, produce factual information, debates in a critical manner and to reflect on learning experiences.

Learners must be able to manager their own study programme and time effectively in order to work and study independently


RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING


Recognition of prior learning in the case of learners not complying with the formal entry requirements will be conducted in accordance with the policy and guidelines of the University concerning the recognition of other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. Recognition takes place only where prior learning corresponds to the required NQF level, and in terms of applied competencies relevant to the content and outcomes of the qualification. Through recognition of prior learning learners may gain access, or advanced placement, or recognition or status, on condition that they continue their studies at this University

QUALIFICATION RULES 
Learner access will be provided to the learner who is in possession of a baccalaureate degree on NQF level 6. Applications for admission to post-graduate studies are finalised by the Chairperson. Rejected applications must be submitted to the Faculty of Economic and Management Science (RAU).

The learners should be able to:

Demonstrate their competence at applying the basic theoretical principles of problem identification and solving in the field of entrepreneurship correctly and reflect on the application made on the process of problem solving, showing a systematic and coherent body of knowledge of entrepreneurship by solving abstract problems (problem solving skills)

2. Plan and execute wide-ranging, specialised and basic research in entrepreneurship by gathering, analysing, synthesising and interpreting the relevant information correctly and reflecting on research undertaken, utilising specialised skills across the field of study (research skills)

3. Demonstrate effective communication competence with the different role players in the entrepreneurial field and applying the theoretical principles of communication (oral/written) and reflect on the application made (communication skills)

4. Accountably develop a theoretical and practical macro vision of entrepreneurship nationally and globally in terms of socio-cultural, economic, institutional, technological and political macro factors reflecting on the differences among countries, even countries within the same region, exercising significant judgement in a range of situation and generate ideas through the analysis of information and concepts. 5. Effectively and responsibly organise and coordinate resources and opportunities in the field of entrepreneurship by applying the relevant theoretical aspects and reflect on the application in identifying new career opportunities (entrepreneurship)

INTEGRATED ASSESSMENT


Formative assessment practices that will be implemented:

Learners are continuously assessed via practical group and class assignments, essays, presentations, informal class tests, and formal modular tests in a written mode. They also do independent research that lead to scientific assignments. In addition, learners will assess themselves as well as the work of each other and reflect on the dynamics of this process

Summative assessment practices that will be implemented;

Integrated assessment, focusing on the achievement of the exit level outcomes, will be done b means of a written two or three hour examination, one per module towards the end of the module on the study material covered in the module 

ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
Access to qualifications on a lower level:

The learner will be able to access to certificates on NQF level 4 or 5, diplomas on level 5, or a degree on NQF level 6, in the fields of Work Ownership and entrepreneurship

Access to qualifications on the same level:

Learners who are (or have been) registered for this or related qualification at another higher education or accredited training institution will be allowed to enter on the same level, given the rules of access have been complied with. Such learners will, therefore, retain credit for relevant modules that have been passed, at the previous institution. The recognition of modules is subject to the approval of the Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences (RAU).

Access to qualifications on a higher level:

It should be possible to enter further study programmes at higher education institutions 

MODERATION OPTIONS 
External examiners will be appointed by the Faculty of Economic and Management Science upon recommendation by the African Centre for Work Ownership Studies

At least one external examiner per module will be appointed. External examiners will be selected from different higher education institutions in South Africa or abroad according to their experience and qualifications. Moderators must have had prior higher education experience in setting examination papers, marking assignments or compiling course material. A moderator for this qualification must at least have a qualification on NQF level 8. 

CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
Formal qualified assessors for assessing learners in terms of foundational, practical and reflexive outcomes per module at the NQF level 8 will be appointed. The lecturer of the module will be accepted as an internal assessor. All internal and external assessors (moderators and examiners) will be nominated by the Faculty of Economic and Business Science in consultation with the African Centre for Work Ownership Studies. All assessors should be registered with the appropriate ETQA, requiring them to comply with the other criteria imposed by the relevant SGB.

Assessors external to the University (RAU) and with specialist academic knowledge in the relevant modules serve as external moderators for modules in the qualification. At least one external and one internal examiner per module will be appointed. Assessors should be SAQA accredited, with experience of assessment in the related field of study. 

REREGISTRATION HISTORY 
As per the SAQA Board decision/s at that time, this qualification was Reregistered in 2006. 

NOTES 
This is a new qualification which was not recorded in June 1998, as the need was only identified subsequent to the initial registration. Because of globalisation, redundancies and retrenchment the profile of work forces in the formal economic sector in changing. Job creation through the development of Small, Medium and Macro Enterprises (SMME'S) offer a solution
