PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
This qualification comprises fundamental, core and elective standards. Learners will have demonstrated competence to interpret and analyse footwear designs, adjust and improve on a maintenance system in footwear, secure and protect footwear materials and implement a quality system in a footwear plant. Learners will also be able to store products and improve on safety, health and environmental systems in footwear. Learners acquiring this qualification will also have elected a particular area of specialisation which will allow a learner to implement the technical capabilities in the footwear industry. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Learners will have attained the NQF Level 2 qualification in footwear processes through competence assessment or recognition of prior learning.

Integrated Assessment

Learners will produce evidence of the following:
  • Use a design specification, produce a list of components and materials.
  • Produce a report on maintenance jobs carried out to reflect the decision the learner took to repair.
  • Demonstrated the ability to remove and replace a range of parts to and from a particular machine.
  • Produce a report indicating the results of a quality test on a range of materials.
  • Material requisition is produced showing qualities and descriptions.
  • For a specific period, statistics are produced showing trends and occurrences relating to quality in a particular footwear plant.
  • An audit plan is produced for a particular area in a footwear plant.
  • An inspection report is produced highlighting all health, safety and environmental issues pertaining to a particular footwear plant.
  • A coaching session has been demonstrated for any area of skill required in the footwear industry.
  • A layout and workflow for any area in a footwear plant is produced.
  • A product is produced which is either a set of bottom stock, components of an upper, a closed upper, a shoe joined through making, a finished shoe or a cut pattern for a particular range. When producing this the following evidence will be produced:
  • Machines used will be set and adjusted as specifications change.
  • Product produced will meet a range of specifications for at least three different ranges.
