PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION

This qualification applies to persons who wish to apply critical competencies and skills in a specialised fine art discipline necessary for a professional career.

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

At least 360 credits, of which at least 120 credits will be at NQF Level 6 (e.g. first degree level in Fine Art), in the related fields of knowledge and skills in a fine art discipline. Due to the investigative nature of the course of study, the candidate would also be in possession of a valid proposal for their intended research at the B.Tech level (NQF Level 7).

Recognition of prior learning:
The qualification will be awarded to a learner who has provided evidence that the stated competence of the qualification has been achieved through experience that complies with the stated specified outcomes

The qualification will be awarded to a learner who has provided evidence to the satisfaction of the assessors that the stated competence of the qualification, as detailed in the specified outcomes, has been achieved, either through education and training in a single provider's learning programme, or through experience that complies with the stated specified outcomes

EXIT LEVEL OUTCOMES

1. Articulate concepts in visual, verbal, tactile and written form.

Specified outcomes:

1. Analyse both formally and stylistically any visual/tactile artwork. (C/F) 30 credits.

2. Compiling and presenting research findings, own conclusions and proposals in a properly set out academic essay as well as disseminating research findings and own conclusions in a professionally presented exhibition. (C/F) 30 credits.

3. Produce and exhibit work of a high conceptual content to an appropriate professional and technical standard within a selected fine art discipline.

While South Africa still had Technikons, all of their qualifications were registered under the Committee of Technikon Principals. After the Technikons became Universities of Technology or merged with Universities, the qualifications were registered under each of these institutions, and the CTP qualifications fell away (hence the end date of 2006, above). Where relevant, replacement information is
