PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The purpose of this programme is to train and educate within the environment of academic excellence competent reflective Human Ecologists, who from a total well-being perspective, will be equipped to address and facilitate primary health care and entrepreneurship, with specialisation in one of the following fields, development and management in the clothing and food industry; public health with a community development focus. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
To be admitted to the programme the candidate shall:
  • Obtain a matriculation exemption and,
  • Obtain a higher grade pass in one of the following subjects:
    Biology, Physiology, Mathematics, Physical Science.

    (If applicable) Recognition of prior learning procedures used for access to this program would be modules completed at colleges and/or technikons in applicable subjects. This will be accepted if above access rules cannot be complied with.

    Upon the completion candidates will be able to:

    * Appreciate the rights and responsibilities of people towards each other within families, among cultural groups

    ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
    Integrated assessment procedures:

    All modules in the Department will be evaluated on a continuous assessment basis. Formative assessment consists of various kinds of assignments, presentations, research essays provided for feedback and mentoring. Summative assessment is by formal examination. 

    ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
    Candidates enrolled within this programme may proceed to a Masters in Human Ecology. 

    MODERATION OPTIONS 
    External moderation of the course in the final years, and assessment of student progress will be done by external moderators appointed by the Department on an annual basis and approved by Senate. Internal moderation will occur through the Department. The moderation body is the Council for Higher Education. 

    CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
    An assessor must at least have a Hons or Masters degree and at least two to five years experience in the particular field of Human Ecology.

    As per the SAQA Board decision/s at that time, this qualification was Reregistered in 2006; 2009; 2012; 2015.
