| PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |
| The aim of this programme is to provide an opportunity to students to broaden their knowledge in Development Studies within the Faculty of Arts. This provides an opportunity to read extensively, to become acquainted with some of the classic texts in the Development Studies discipline, to become involved in a conversation with its most important thinkers and to take part in these debates with confidence. The solid basis that is acquired in this way prepares the student for postgraduate research. This provides an opportunity not only to broaden but also to deepen insight in the discipline as specified. |
| LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING |
| Students with a Bachelor of Arts degree or equivalent (NQF level 6) will be admitted into this programme. Prior learning and/or relevant experience will be recognised for entry into this programme where applicable and subject to Senate`s discretion. |

| CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS |
| An assessor will have at least a Master`s degree in the appropriate subject plus a minimum of three to five years` experience in teaching the course. |
