PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The qualifying learner will have the ability to plan, cost, implement and maintain large landscape projects using appropriate management principles and procedures and apply research methodology techniques in resolving relevant landscape problems. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Prospective students must have a First Degree in Landscape Technology, equivalent qaulification or an acceptable record of practical experience.

QUALIFICATION RULES 
The qualification will be awarded to a learner who has provided evidence to the satisfaction of the assessors that the stated competence of the qualification, as detailed in the specified outcomes, has been achieved, either through education and training in a single provider's learning programme, or through experience that complies with the stated specified outcomes. 

EXIT LEVEL OUTCOMES 
The learner will be able to demonstrate the following capabilities:

1. Analyse, develop and bring to conclusion a selected landscape case study

2. Undertake applied research to assist in practical problem-solving within a landscape practice

3. Manage all relevant resources in the operation of a landscape enterprise.

Specified outcomes:

1. Select, apply appropriate analysis techniques, develop effective solutions and present conclusion using appropriate documentation and graphic representation techniques. (C) (Credits = 50)

2. Establish clearly the problem statement / hypothesis and select most appropriate methodology to undertake the envisaged research into problem solving in a landscape practice.

3. Apply appropriate management skills in the operation of a landscape design or contracting enterprise.

    1. Selection and analysis of identified landscape case study have been done efficiently, applying appropriate techniques
  • The development process substantiates clearly the suggested solutions
  • Recommendations and/or implementation programme adhere to good landscape management principles
  • Documentation uses appropriate written and graphic techniques.
    2. The problem statement and hypothesis are clearly formulated
  • The most appropriate methodology to undertake the envisaged research has been demonstrated.
    3. Relevant financial, project planning and marketing knowledge and skills have been demonstrated correctly.
  • Appropriate communication methods have been used efficiently in communication with personnel and clients

    Integrated assessment:

    A combination of formative assessment (projects, written tests, laboratory work, group discussions) and summative assessment methods (written examinations, practical project presentations). A graduate will be able to identify, assess, explain, interpret, discuss, compare, analyse and solve horticultural problems of a specialised nature. Assessment practices should integrate these elements, combining appropriate application of knowledge, skills and values to signify competence. Formative assessment will be continuous.

After the Technikons became Universities of Technology or merged with Universities, the qualifications were registered under each of these institutions, and the CTP qualifications fell away (hence the end date of 2006, above).
