| PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |
| The purpose of this qualification is to train to a higher level, statisticians who will be able to work as academics at both universities and other tertiary institutions in this country. As such they will be able to lecture in both Applied Statistics and Statistics and will also be able to work as researchers in these disciplines, extending the frontiers of Statistics in all directions. These statisticians will also be able to work in any sector of the South African economy including Health related fields and many of the Government Departments. |

Assessment criteria will be based on testing the learners knowledge of the chosen field of study and on his/her thesis.
