| PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |
| Enable graduates to demonstrate having make a considerable contribution to the discipline of anthropology, through the completion of a detailed research project involving a period of practical fieldwork as well as library research. The results of the project should have advanced intellectual knowledge and be to the benefit of society. |

| Integrated assessment
Oral and written presentations to: (i) Demonstrate an understanding of various theoretical approaches in anthropology. (ii) Demonstrate familiarity with the history and development of anthropology. (iii) Demonstrate familiarity with research methodology and fieldwork techniques used in anthropology and show a proficiency in these techniques. (v) Demonstrate research and writing skills. |
| MODERATION OPTIONS |
| There shall be at least two examiners, one internal and the other one external. The external examiner shall be a person attached to another University or a similar institution or it may also be a person who is an anthropologist or development practitioner working for the public sector or private sector or an NGO. |

| A PhD degree plust at least five years teaching experience in the subject. |
