PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
This qualification is intended for specialists in the field of motion pictures. The qualifying learner will be competent in doing research and applying the knowledge obtained in a specialised field of the motion picture industry.

    ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
    Assessment could consist of, but are not limited by, the following examples:

    A practical production / a number of practical productions of a professional standard, are created (50%), a dissertation / handbook / study notes or specialised essay of at least 15000 words is written; and knowledge is transferred to a learner within the field of study (10%); OR
    A dissertation of at least 15000 words is written or a professional drama script or a practical production of a high professional standard is created (100%) and knowledge is transferred full time for more than four years or part time for more than twelve years, to learners within the field of motion picture production; OR
    A professional book/hand book/training program of a substantial length is published (90%) and knowledge is transferred to a learner within the field of study (10%); OR
    A script or production or key part of a production (namely directing, editing, production management, sound design, production design, cinematography, lighting, animation or special effects), that is a) of a high international standard and b) distributed internationally, is produced / performed (50%); a specialised essay of at least 5000 words is written (40%) and knowledge is transferred to a learner within the field of study (10%).

    Assessors in the Technikon are accredited by SERTEC, according to the minimum requirements laid down by SERTEC. 

    NOTES 
    While South Africa still had Technikons, all of their qualifications were registered under the Committee of Technikon Principals. After the Technikons became Universities of Technology or merged with Universities, the qualifications were registered under each of these institutions, and the CTP qualifications fell away (hence the end date of 2006, above). Where relevant, replacement information is
