To provide qualifiers with specific knowledge, skills and competence in the field of and Forensic Dentistry, that will enable them to appointed to managerial positions in the field Forensic Dentistry. 2. To provide the public oral health services of South Africa with an adequate supply of Forensic dentists who can function at an administrative as well as clinical level. SUBSIDIARY PURPOSE To provide future teaching staff for the dental schools of South Africa. |

| A newly qualified person must:
1. Know and be able to identify pathological conditions relevant to forensic investigations. 2. Know and be able to identify and interpret forensic anthropological. 3. Know and be able to record all forensic findings by means of photographs. 4. Know and be able to take and interpret all radiological investigations and findings. 5. Know and be competent to manage all aspects of the dental identification of forensic cases. 6. Know and be able to organise, manage and take part in all aspects of mass disaster investigations 7. Know and be able to evaluate and interpret bite mark evidence. 8. Know and be able to recognise and interpret cases of child abuse. 9. Know and be able to apply special techniques in forensic investigations. 10. Know and be able to present and defend findings in court. |
| ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA |
| Integrated assessment.
In order to assess whether the exit-level outcomes have been achieved formative and summative assessments are done throughout the study period. These include the seminars, case studies and reports as well as and written and oral tests and examinations. A qualifier must have, through the above assessment procedures, proved that s/he has achieved the NQF level 7 standards. |

| The Faculty maintains a bank of external examiner as approved by Council, with the necessary knowledge, academic qualifications and clinical/practical expertise and national and international standing, from which the external examiners are appointed. |

| Staff members of the Faculty of Dentistry with the necessary academic qualifications and experience are used as internal assessors. |
