PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION

To provide qualifiers with advanced core knowledge, specific skills (including initial research skills) and applied competence in a number of functional management fields and supporting disciplines that provide opportunities for personal growth and gainful employment

To prove South Africa with competent experts in the field of management that can occupy from the level to senior level managerial positions in both the private and public sector and thus broaden the leadership base of our knowledge based economy enabling sustainable development, growth and prosperity.

To provide students who would like to proceed to a study of the higher level integrative managerial competencies with a sound academic and applied base from which to depart

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

Senior Certificate with Matriculation Exemption or equivalent university admission qualification

At least a three year National Diploma or equivalent accepted by Senate

Additional requirements:
Appropriate practical experience of at least two years. Successful completion of a battery of entrance tests used to evaluate language, mathematical and problem solving abilities

ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

1. The assessment used for the BB and AHons ensures that the exit level outcomes of this qualification is achieved

2. A range of assessment methods such as individual tasks, group tasks, role-play, work place assignments, literature studies, computer assignments, written and oral presentations and examinations are used in a process of continuous evaluation

3. The required range of modalities are used integratively to assess whether the specified outcomes have been achieved

4. Reliability is obtained by generalising from samples to the population in a judicious and planned way

5. The assessment used to meet the standard and level of achievement for NQF level 7

6. Relate learning gained from work experience to academic knowledge encountered in the academic environment and vice versa

7. The ability to draw up a comprehensive business plan for an entrepreneurial stat-up-firm

INTEGRATED ASSESSMENT

Continuous assessment takes place in a variety of ways, on both and individual and group level. Modalities include discipline specific and cross disciplinary individual and group assignments, simulations, computer assignments, work place assignments, written and oral presentations and tests. Over and above this, it is also expected that the student should draw up a business plan for an entrepreneurial start-up-firm

ARTICULATION OPTIONS

The ADBA graduate can proceed to the MBA programme, both at the US and other universities in South Africa. Credits achieved are also internationally transferable through e.g. the EQUIS accreditation system

MODERATION OPTIONS

The university of Stellenbosch has a system of external peer review and evaluation of departments. One of the components of the system is an evaluation of the standarfds and assessment practices of the department.

In the process of accreditation at the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) under the EQUIS process of quality improvement, the standards and evaluation practices of the department are also evaluated.

CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS

The academic staff of the university of Stellenbosch will be used in a manner which fits into the quality assurance system of the university
