The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

 

In all of the tables in this document, both the pre-2009 NQF Level and the NQF Level is shown. In the text (purpose statements, qualification rules, etc), any references to NQF Levels are to the pre-2009 levels unless specifically stated otherwise.  

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
Equip students with skills and knowledge needed in managing the development interface between communities and development agencies ( the public sector, the private sector and the NGOs)

A degree in Development Studies or other related field.

Integrated assessment

Oral and written presentations to:

i) Demonstrate an understanding of various theories and approaches to development.

ii) Demonstrate ability to interpret development policies.

iii) Demonstrate familiarity with participatory strategies in development.

iv) Demonstrate a clear understanding of the RDP principles and social change in South Africa.

v) Demonstrate research and writing skills. 

ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
Completion of the honours programme will make one eligible for selection for a Masters programme at Unizul or at other universities. 

MODERATION OPTIONS 
There shall be at least two examiners, one internal and the other one external. The external examiner shall be a person attached to another University or a similar institution or it may also be a person who is a development practitioner working for the public sector or private sector or an NGO. 

CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
An Honours degree plus at least five years teaching experience in the subject or a Masters degree and two years experience in the subject.

As per the SAQA Board decision/s at that time, this qualification was Reregistered in 2006; 2009; 2012; 2015.
