PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
1. To get students to understand fully advance principals and practice of mining.

2. To enable students to evaluate critically the options of carrying out a mining programme (both open cast and underground).

3. To enable students understand fully the stability of structures in mining.

4. To equip the students with the technical knowledge of setting up a new mine or re-opening closed mine.

5. To show students the methods of reducing environmental degradation in mining operation

  • External assessors PhD in Mining

    Career experience required:
  • Internal assessors must be at least a Senior Lecturer
  • External assessors must be at least a Senior Lecturer with minimum five years experience in supervising research in the relevant subject area

    Other criteria:

    External assessor must show evidence of current active research in the relevant field
