PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
This qualification is intended for foremen/managers of water care plants.

The qualified graduate will be equipped to function independently manage a water care plant in harmony with the environment, modify existing processes to improve its performance, develop new treatment processes and optimally manage all resources.

Under current legislation the qualified learner will be able to register as a Class IV operator of a water care plant.

First Degree: Water Care, or equivalent.

QUALIFICATION RULES 
The qualification will be awarded to a learner who has provided evidence to the satisfaction of the assessors that the stated competence of the qualification, as detailed in the specified outcomes, has been achieved, either through education and training in a single provider`s learning programme, or through experience that complies with the stated specified outcomes. The recognition of prior learning will be conducted according to outcomes as well as experience gained in the relevant industry.

Develop existing and, where appropriate, new physical, chemical and biological water treatment processes
Analyse and assess the potential of a catchments area
Conduct a water environment impact study
Apply the principles and concepts of general management in a water care plant or catchments management agency context.

1. Appropriate equipment, measuring instruments and techniques are applied correctly to improve existing processes and to develop new processes or elements of processes

An investigation is conducted within the framework of research methodology, under supervision, and a concise research report rendered.

2. The integrated components of a catchment area are identified.
  • A comprehensive catchment management plan is developed and documented, with particular attention to conversation
  • The strategy for implementation of the catchment management plan is documented, including contingency plans

    3. Factors and elements from the environment that could impact on water resources are identified
  • The impact of individual and combined factors on the water resources is assessed
  • Recommendations and/or solutions are formulated

    4.- Human resources are managed effectively in real or simulated contexts
  • Material resources of water care plant are managed effectively in real or simulated contexts.
  • Financial resources are managed effectively and efficiently in real or simulated contexts.

    Written examination of mastery of the critical academic components of learning.

    Accreditation visits by SERTEC is presently undertaken every four years. 

    CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS

    Be in possession of a relevant qualification in the water field
    Have relevant experience in the water field
    Be familiar with the Technikon educational system 

    NOTES 
    While South Africa still had Technikons, all of their qualifications were registered under the Committee of Technikon Principals. After the Technikons became Universities of Technology or merged with Universities, the qualifications were registered under each of these institutions, and the CTP qualifications fell away (hence the end date of 2006, above). Where relevant, replacement information is
    shown in the table above.
