The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

 

In all of the tables in this document, both the pre-2009 NQF Level and the NQF Level is shown. In the text (purpose statements, qualification rules, etc), any references to NQF Levels are to the pre-2009 levels unless specifically stated otherwise.  

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The primary purpose of the qualification is to:
1. Provide qualifying learners with training to meet perceived needs of a specialised Hospitality Industry.
2. Produce learners with intellectual, entrepreneurial and practical skills relevant to the dynamic market environment.
3. Equip learners with good analytical and communication skills and understanding of organisational needs.
4. Blend vocational training with a broad management education for the industry's future leaders.

Entry Requirements:
  • National Senior Certificate, NQF Level 4, granting access to Bachelor's Degree studies.

    3. Demonstrating the ability to apply organisational arrangements that are applicable in hospitality management.
    4. Demonstrating the ability to apply and utilise human resources in the hospitality industry.
    5. Demonstrating the ability to apply the skills, values and knowledge pertaining to the hospitality industry in a range of contexts.
    6. Demonstrating the ability to apply basic computing skills.
    7. Demonstrating the ability to identify levels of individual and group motivation, develop career planning and procedural agreements to assist employees with their careers.
    8. Demonstrating the ability to understand and conduct a range of hospitality functions.
    9. Demonstrating the ability to distinguish between local and international hospitality practices.

    Integrated assessment:
    A rigorous system of continuous assessment, which reflects learner's integration of knowledge and skills. The assessment strategies will include: tutorials, practicals, tests, and written and oral examinations. 

    ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
    This qualification allows possibilities for both horizontal and vertical articulation.

  • Bachelor of Business Administration in Hospitality Management, NQF Level 7.

    Vertical Articulation:
