| PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |
| A qualifying learner at this level is competent in applying specialist knowledge and research methodology in a ceramics environment thus contributing to the research and development needs of the ceramics industry. The qualified person will be able to register with SACS and SARNAP as a professional Technologist. |

| Capable of describing, explaining, comparing and distinguishing theories, models and approaches to ceramics processes. Capable of evaluation, prediction and calculation of process outcomes.
The applicant should be in possesion of a Higher Education and Training Professional Degree or equivalent (NQF 7) in Ceramics Technology. |

| The qualification will be awarded to a learner who has provided evidence to the satisfaction of the assessors that the stated competence of the qualification, as detailed in the specified outcomes, has been achieved, either through education and training in a single provider`s learning programme, or through experience that complied with the stated specified outcomes. |

| The qualifying learner should have the capability to:
1. Initiate and execute applied research in a range of ceramics activities to full completion. 1.1 Collect, analyse and critically evaluate information in order to assess the situation correctly whilst doing applied research. (C) 1.2 Predict and calculate process parameters and outcomes. (C) 1.3 Communicate effectively by using visual, mathematical and linguistic skills in reports and presentations.(F) 1.4 Act as manager and / or project leader in a ceramics environment. (F,E) Critical outcomes: C = Core, F = Fundamental and E = Elective outcomes. |

| CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS |
| Examiners are appointed by the Senate on recommendation of the Vice-Rector and Dean concerned. Moderators are appointed by the Senate on recommendation of the Vice-Rector an Dean concerned. Moderators for terminating instructional offerings must be competent persons who are not members of staff. Moderators for non-termination instructional offerings may be full-time or part-time lectures and / or other competent persons. |

After the Technikons became Universities of Technology or merged with Universities, the qualifications were registered under each of these institutions, and the CTP qualifications fell away (hence the end date of 2006, above).
