EXIT LEVEL OUTCOMES |
Students are expected to have:
* A better understanding of the basic concepts and properties in the relevant mathematical topics and modules. * Acquired skills to solve mathematical problems of advanced nature. * Acquire insight and desire for advanced study in mathematical areas. Specify critical cross-field outcomes: Skills acquired will be of benefit for resolving problems that may arise in applied mathematics, theoretical and applied physics, theoretical and applied chemistry, and subjects requiring knowledge of analytic and or algebraic techniques. |
ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA |
This will consist of continuous assessment, which involve tutorials, class seminars, and written examinations in all the prescribed modules.
Integrated assessment incorporated to ensure that the purpose of the degree is achieved: 1. Written examinations Written tests and project work |
ARTICULATION OPTIONS |
This qualification serves as an entry point to the related qualification(s):
M.Sc (Mathematical Analysis) M.Sc (Algebra) M.Sc (Topology) This qualification provides credits for the related qualification(s): M.Sc (Theoretical Physics) |
MODERATION OPTIONS |
State measures to ensure that assessment is fair, reliable and valid:
* A system of internal peer moderation of examination papers will be used before the papers are submitted to external moderation. * As much as possible, (and in accordance to the university regulations), all modules will be externally assessed. * External assessors comments on the papers will be discussed with the Head of department (and where necessary at departmental meeting), to ensure that the quality of the programme remains at an acceptable standard. |
CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS |
Internal Assessors: M.Sc or Ph.D. in Mathematics (or Applied Mathematics if necessary).
External Assessors: Ph.D, in Mathematics (or Applied Mathematics if necessary). Internal assessors must be at least of lecturer (or better) level. External assessors must be at least of senior lecturer (or better) level, and a wide experience in university teaching and research. * Must show evidence of active research work in related areas for lecturer (Internal Assessors). * Evidence of active research work in related areas a must for external assessor. * Experience, as external examiner will be an added advantage. |

PROVIDERS CURRENTLY ACCREDITED TO OFFER THIS QUALIFICATION: |
This information shows the current accreditations (i.e. those not past their accreditation end dates), and is the most complete record available to SAQA as of today. Some Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionaries have a lag in their recording systems for provider accreditation, in turn leading to a lag in notifying SAQA of all the providers that they have accredited to offer qualifications and unit standards, as well as any extensions to accreditation end dates. The relevant Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionary should be notified if a record appears to be missing from here. |
