| EXIT LEVEL OUTCOMES |
| 1. Ability to identify, assess, formulate and solve complex problems of a chemical nature creatively, from their knowledge of the different domains of Chemistry.
2. Demonstrate of applied competence, i.e. * That chemical knowledge and skills can be applied to solve real problems of a chemical nature, either individually or as part of a team. * That process skills can be used to investigate chemical phenomena related to the material world. 3. Effective communication using appropriate language and media, ability to prepare illustrative and interpretive scientific reports. 4. Use of safe working practice in the chemical field. Specify critical cross-field outcomes: * Ability to use scientific knowledge and skills to support responsible decision making of a chemical and nonchemical nature. * Ability to solve problems individually and as part of a project team. * Demonstration of an understanding of ethical issues related to the chemical sciences. * Organising and managing oneself and one's activities responsibly and effectively. * Collecting, analysing, organising and critically evaluating information. * Demonstrating an understanding of the material world as a set of related systems by recognising that problem-solving contexts do not exist in isolation. * Contributing to the full personal development of each learner and the social and economical development of society, by making it the underlying intention of this programme of learning to make the learner aware of the importance of: * Exploring education and career opportunities. * Developing entrepreneurial opportunities. * Communication skills (reporting and presentation of results). * An appreciation of the contribution of Chemistry and chemists to society. |

| MODERATION OPTIONS |
| State measures to ensure that assessment is fair, reliable and valid:
Internal: Self-administered learner evaluations and observation by the Head of the department of presentations are used, as well as regular discussions between staff members and between staff and students. Reactions are obtained occasionally at formal meetings to ensure that the quality of the programme remains at an acceptable level. External: The programme is submitted to SAQA for accreditation, and the thesis is examined internally and externally. When large discrepancies between internal and external examiner's evaluations are found, these are discussed by the programme presenter/supervisor and internal and external examiners involved, to reach an acceptable performance level and improve the quality of teaching and learning. |
| CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS |
| PhD in Chemistry.
Academic or Industrial. Must be actively involved in the chemical sciences. |
REREGISTRATION HISTORY |
| As per the SAQA Board decision/s at that time, this qualification was Reregistered in 2006; 2009; 2012; 2015. |

| PROVIDERS CURRENTLY ACCREDITED TO OFFER THIS QUALIFICATION: |
| This information shows the current accreditations (i.e. those not past their accreditation end dates), and is the most complete record available to SAQA as of today. Some Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionaries have a lag in their recording systems for provider accreditation, in turn leading to a lag in notifying SAQA of all the providers that they have accredited to offer qualifications and unit standards, as well as any extensions to accreditation end dates. The relevant Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionary should be notified if a record appears to be missing from here. |
