PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
1. The purpose of this qualification is to expand and intensify the learners training in archaeo-tourism, cultural resource management and other practical aspects of the archaeologist's trade.
2. Furthermore, to equip him/her with the theoretical and practical skills to perform tasks and routines associated with the archaeological profession.
3. Prepare the learner for contract work; more specifically for integrated impact Assessments.
4. Finally, the Honours in Archaeology provides the learner with an awareness of major contemporary debates in Archaeology.
5. All modules, including the research project, aim at providing the learner with theoretical knowledge, at developing application skills and at orienting the learner towards the realities of the world of work.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.

    Other:

    1. Research projects: project work is an integral part of the course assessment.
    2. ARC5721 consists of an extended essay based on actual fieldwork.
    3. Given the postgraduate nature of the qualification, oral presentation and group work from the major assessment tools.
    4. In the evaluation of ARC5624 debates feature centrally.
    5. ARC5524: simulation of practical field work situations are central to the evaluation methodology of this module.
