| EXIT LEVEL OUTCOMES |
| Subject specific outcomes
Graduates of the programme will: 1. Have a sound knowledge and clear understanding of the theory and principles underlying each of modern organic, physical, analytical, inorganic and polymer chemistry practice. 2. Be capable of designing an experiment through a level of skill in applying this theory and related concepts such that problems in organic synthesis, inorganic synthesis, analytical determinations and physical parameter measurements as commonly required in South African industry, academia and government sectors can be solved. Be able to perform synthesis to produce reaction products. Furthermore to purify and analyse these products using conventional analytical techniques and take these processes up to an industrial scale. 3. Be aware of the chemical literature and be able to access information in this corpus through appropriate search facilities. 4. Work effectively in a team to research and present a topic in chemistry. 5. Have the ability to report their results in an appropriate of scientific form of communication, both in oral and written form. 6. Manipulate instrumental responses so that these may be used to make analytical measurements. Aware of the hazards associated with the use of different types of chemicals. They will be able to take the necessary safety precautions to minimise deleterious impacts of these chemicals. Be able to operate the common instrumentation available in an analytical chemical laboratory. 7. Use knowledge from the physical, chemical and mathematical disciplines to solve problems across a variety of contexts. Graduates of the programme will be aware of: 8. Different thinking and learning strategies to solve problems using learning independence and resource management. 9. Participating in the community as responsible scientists, through, guest lectures on forensic and environmental chemistry and membership of professional bodies. 10. Demonstrating social and environmental awareness in dealing and reporting on Chemical issues, in particular, understanding the safety implications of the handling of a variety of chemicals. 11. The career opportunities available in the many fields which make up the discipline of Chemistry and their application in the community, through the tracking of job advertisements in the National press and through visits to local industries. 12. Entrepreneurial opportunities through exposure to examples in the community, of the application of Chemical knowledge and through the study of Chemical process development. |

| This information shows the current accreditations (i.e. those not past their accreditation end dates), and is the most complete record available to SAQA as of today. Some Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionaries have a lag in their recording systems for provider accreditation, in turn leading to a lag in notifying SAQA of all the providers that they have accredited to offer qualifications and unit standards, as well as any extensions to accreditation end dates. The relevant Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionary should be notified if a record appears to be missing from here. |
