PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION

To allow registration with the SA Veterinary Council and the practising of a speciality as provided for in the Veterinary and Para-veterinary professions Act.

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

A Student must be in possession of at least a BVMCh degree or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the Senate for this purpose, provided that the period specified has elapsed since obtaining said qualification and the student has, in the opinion of the Faculty Board, had appropriate experience in the discipline of his choice.

Students wishing to be admitted to the M Med Vet degree course must consult with the head of the respective department prior to registration, as no student shall be permitted to register unless so recommended by the head of that department.

In addition, a student shall be required to comply with all applicable regulations of the South African Veterinary Council as may be in force whilst registered for the degree.
