The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

 

In all of the tables in this document, both the pre-2009 NQF Level and the NQF Level is shown. In the text (purpose statements, qualification rules, etc), any references to NQF Levels are to the pre-2009 levels unless specifically stated otherwise.  

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
Learners exiting from this programme will demonstrate a superior Management knowledge, skills and applied competency in a selected field of study in Business Management. The learner would independently do research on a research problem of his/her own choice and be assisted by a study leader within the department. Learners could enter the academic world as well as various employment opportunities in highly competitive multi-cultural business environments. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience.

In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.

Entry Requirements:
The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is:
  • Bachelor of Commerce Honours in Business Management, NQF Level 8.
    Or
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management, NQF Level 8.
    Or
  • Bachelor of Commerce in Business Management, NQF Level 8, 480 Credits.

    1. Learners will be able to demonstrate an advanced in -depth and a broad knowledge and expertise in the full spectrum of Business Management subject-matter.
    2. Learners will be able to demonstrate an advanced competency in conducting independent research including writing a research proposal, problem formulation, application of proper research methodology, analysis of data, interpretation of findings as well as scientifically founded recommendations.
    3. Learners will be able to demonstrate an advanced competency in dissertation writing meeting the theoretical and technical requirements of good report writing.
    4. Learners will be able to demonstrate competency in applying appropriate business ethics in all operations while showing a sensitivity to cultural and ethical issues.
    5. Learners will be able to demonstrate competency in computer proficiency and the use of information technology. 

    ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
    Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 1:
  • Approach problems in a scientific way.
  • Apply the acquired advanced theoretical knowledge to interpret and analyse secondary data sources and related material.
  • Solve advanced management problems pertaining to the full spectrum of Business Management subject - matter.

    Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 2:
  • Do an independent survey, researching a topical problem or business aspect.
  • Critically interpret, analyse and differentiate between aspects of importance and present solutions to problems.

    Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 3:
  • Present research findings/results and recommendations in a dissertation meeting the theoretical and technical requirements of a scientific report.

    Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 4:
  • Show a sensitivity for cultural and ethical issues.
  • Express a well - versed opinion on topical issues forming part of the current debate on practical business problems related to cultural and ethical issues in the specific field of specialisation.

    Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 5:
  • Apply computer proficiency in problem solving, research methodology and the presentation of the findings of an independent scientific research survey.

    Integrated Assessment:
  • The acquired competence and skills will be evaluated at the hand of formative assessment methods like assignments, case studies, group discussions, and tests.
  • Diagnostic assessment will be applied to pin-point general misinterpretations and mistakes through the application of feed-back on tests, suggested solutions to applied problems and case studies, as well as personal guidance.
  • Summative assessment, such as examinations, will be done reflecting on the overall achievement of learners and personal consultations.
  • Evaluative assessment of learner achievements will be conducted on a continuous basis as part of promoting improvement and for the purpose of curriculum development.

    This qualification compares with the international qualifications in terms of the range of competencies in the learning content offered.
