PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
To provide qualifiers with an in-depth knowledge of Public Administration and associated managerial skills so as to equip them for further intellectual development, gainful economic activity and the enhancement of professionality in the South African public service. This degree is the Public Administration equivalent of an MBA. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
An academic qualification or equivalent on at least NQF-level 6.


Recognition of prior learning:

Recognition of prior learning focusing on the ability to read and interpret scholarly texts.

At least five years appropriate administrative experience in the public sector.

ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
Integrated assessment

The programme consists of prescribed modules, each with an assignment of 5 000 words plus 1 x 3 hour examination paper. The learner may choose between six modules and a treatise or eight modules. All modules and the treatise are externally moderated. 

ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
Vertical articulation: Access to the D Phil in Public Administration.

Horizontal articulation: Mid-stream with the Hons in Public Administration degree. 

MODERATION OPTIONS 
External moderation of dissertation. No moderating body. 

CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
A Masters degree in Public Administration or related field plus appropriate practical experience in the public sector.

As per the SAQA Board decision/s at that time, this qualification was Reregistered in 2006.
