PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
Occupational health service is vital for sustainable and responsible development. The Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 has even gone further to make this a legislated imperative. Provision of occupational health services is a multi-disciplinary effort, hence there is the need to train persons with different professional experiences and interests in occupational health to;
  • Train people involved in the field of occupational health, and provide relevant knowledge
    and expertise in management of occupational health problems.
  • Provide South Africa with practitioners with expertise in the field of occupational health. Specialised skills and competencies in the field of occupational health will be transferred to graduates. An attitude of life-long learning will be fostered, ensuring continuing self-development and development in the field.
  • Society will gain a work force with improved preventive, promotive and rehabilitative health services for the working population.
