A qualified learner is competent in his/her selected field of specialisation within the mineral industry and can be employed as a specialist in this field.

    Elective:
  • Continue with formal or non-formal research in the selected field of study to the benefit of the company and the minerals industry
  • Be part of the production team in the minerals industry in his/her selected field of specialisation.

    The qualified learner should provide evidence of his/her competency in:

    1. KNOWLEDGE:
  • Applying his/her knowledge obtained in formal education and in practise in an acceptable research format to solve high-level problems or improve methodology in his/her field of study
  • Solving problems and dealing with technology at the required level for this qualification
  • Obtain new knowledge pertaining to the project through self-study and from questioning his/her appointed tutors/supervisors
  • Create new knowledge in the selective field of study

    2. OPERTIONAL SKILLS:
  • Applying specialist computer software applicable to the field of study.
  • Using of the latest technology where applicable in the selected field of study.

    3. MANAGING SKILLS:
  • Managing of a research project and any resources that may have been allocated for it.

    Integrated assessment:

    A thesis to be completed by the candidate and to be examined, which may include an interview, by two external specialists in the selected field of study. 

  • ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
    Horizontally to a NQF qualification at Level 8 in the field of Engineering. 

    MODERATION OPTIONS 
    Current SERTEC requirements. 

    CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS

    NOTES 
    While South Africa still had Technikons, all of their qualifications were registered under the Committee of Technikon Principals. After the Technikons became Universities of Technology or merged with Universities, the qualifications were registered under each of these institutions, and the CTP qualifications fell away (hence the end date of 2006, above). Where relevant, replacement information is
    shown in the table above.
