PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
This qualification is intended to allow graduates to apply integrated operations techniques, together with advanced analysis and problem-solving, to a particular specialisation in the field of Industrial Engineering/Operations Management, through involvement in an applied research project.

ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
1. Competence in formulating problems, gathering and analysing of information, drawing conclusions and publishing of results has to be demonstrated correctly.

Integrated assessment:

Will be formatively and summatively assessed by regular evaluation of progress by supervisor and final evaluation of thesis by an external examiner and/or panel of selected evaluators. Theoretical aspects will be complemented by practical input, experience and expertise from industry. 

ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
Entry into relevant doctorate study at NQF level 8. 

MODERATION OPTIONS 
Final thesis/dissertation assessed internally and externally. Refer to SERTEC requirements.

While South Africa still had Technikons, all of their qualifications were registered under the Committee of Technikon Principals. After the Technikons became Universities of Technology or merged with Universities, the qualifications were registered under each of these institutions, and the CTP qualifications fell away (hence the end date of 2006, above).
