PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
A qualifying learner at this level is competent in applying specialist knowledge and research methodology in a ceramics environment thus contributing to the research and development needs of the ceramics industry and mining community. The qualified person will be able to register with SACS and SARNAP as a professional Technologist. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Capable of preparing a dissertation based on research in the field of Ceramics.

The applicant should be in possession of a Higher Education and Training Masters Degree or equivalent (NQF 8) in Ceramics.

    Moderation of all existing courses is done by SERTEC. 

    CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
    Examiners are appointed by the Senate on recommendation of the Dean and Vice-Rector.

    Moderators are appointed by the Senate on recommendation of the Vice-Rector and Dean concerned. Moderators for terminating instructional offerings must be competent persons who are not members of staff. Moderators for non-terminating instructional offerings may be full-time or part-time lecturers and / or other competent persons. 

    NOTES 
    While South Africa still had Technikons, all of their qualifications were registered under the Committee of Technikon Principals. After the Technikons became Universities of Technology or merged with Universities, the qualifications were registered under each of these institutions, and the CTP qualifications fell away (hence the end date of 2006, above).
