PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION

The qualifying learner will have developed advanced research skills as a Ceramic Professional: as a Ceramic Artist, Crafts Person, Ceramic Designer Maker and Ceramic Academic and /or Researcher.

The qualifying learner can conduct highly specialised research under minimal guidance in a Ceramic Design related field, and contribute to new knowledge and production in that field. The research problem, its justification, process and outcome is reported in a dissertation and demonstrated in a body of work (highly sophisticated and innovative) and/or other means which comply with the general accepted norms for research at that level.

ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

1. The research problem is clearly identified, defined and detailed in the research proposal and demonstrated in the final body of innovative work and/or dissertation (explication) and/or exhibition.

2. The use of literature surveys/ experimentation/ correlation/ causal analysis is justified fully and correctly in oral presentation and the written explication. The listed and cited literature of the literature survey and the exposition of the research reflects familiarity with relevant and recent trends in new ceramic product development, technologies, techniques and processes including design solutions, models and theories in the chosen field. The stated hypothesis directs the investigation. Appropriate research tools are designed. Data is collected using quantitative and/or qualitative methodology. The data is logical analysed and interpreted in terms of an appropriate theoretical/conceptual model. The findings are subjected to tests of reliability and validity. The limitations of the study is stated. The thesis is coherently written.

Integrated assessment:

Examiners Reports and final panel review.
A written explication and/or exhibition and/or dissertation.

1. Vertically to a NQF qualification at Level 8 post doctoral research in Ceramic Design and Manufacture.

MODERATION OPTIONS

NOTES

While South Africa still had Technikons, all of their qualifications were registered under the Committee of Technikon Principals. After the Technikons became Universities of Technology or merged with Universities, the qualifications were registered under each of these institutions, and the CTP qualifications fell away (hence the end date of 2006, above). Where relevant, replacement information is
shown in the table above.
