PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
This qualification is intended for environmental technologists and environmental managers.

The qualifying learner will have the competence to apply advanced environmental science strategies and technology, as well as integrated management strategies, with the purpose of improving environmental performance by assessment of industrial processes and pollution prevention technology, effective problem solving and optimal management of natural resources. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Descriptive entry level:
A thorough understanding of Environmental Management and Science at NQF Level 5 as well as English second language proficiency at NQF Level 4
Qualification entry level:
National Diploma: Environmental Management or related first degree.

QUALIFICATION RULES 
The qualification will be awarded to the learner, providing assessed evidence that the stated competence of the qualification as detailed in the specified outcomes, has been achieved, either through education and training in a single provider's learning programme, or through experience that complies with the stated specified outcomes.
The recognition of prior learning will be conducted according to outcomes as well as experience gained in the relevant industry.

A. Apply basic scientific principles and processes to identify assess and solve technical and operational environmental problems creatively and with innovation.

B. Apply integrated environmental management to assess industrial processes and pollution prevention technology within the prevailing environmental legal parameters.

C. Apply the principles and methods of Environmental Impact Assessment, Life Cycle analysis as well as hazard and risk assessment on the basis of sound technical knowledge.

D. Critically perform internal environmental auditing.

E. Design and implement Environmental management systems.

F. Apply decommission and rehabilitation principles to effectively prevent and also solve environmental problems.

G. Plan and implement environmental projects using project management tools and skills.

    While South Africa still had Technikons, all of their qualifications were registered under the Committee of Technikon Principals. After the Technikons became Universities of Technology or merged with Universities, the qualifications were registered under each of these institutions, and the CTP qualifications fell away (hence the end date of 2006, above).
