PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION

The qualifiers will:

Be able to develop advanced knowledge and skills for opportunities in Academic and research institutions, consultancy work on social, political, economic, trade, investment, military affairs, diplomacy particularly foreign affairs, national and international law, national, regional and international organizations, multinational corporations, national and provincial governments and non-governmental organizations;

Be capable to contribute towards the development and expansion of capacity building in international relations essential for South Africa to achieve and expand the interests of its people in its participation in regional, continental and International affairs,

Be competent in specialized and critical theoretical knowledge and experience as well as analytical and 'technical skills in international relations,

Be competent and proactive in establishing linkages with individuals, governmental and non-governmental organizations (such as the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Department of Defense, Africa Institute of South Africa, Institute for Security Studies, Institute for Global Dialogue, Nigerian Institute of International Relations) and other academic and research institutions at national and International levels, involved in the study and promotion of peace, security and international relations;

Be able to use advanced methods and techniques of social science research, computer/internet facilities and geographic information system technologies in investigating and analysing international relations issues and developments;

Be able to critically understand and conceptualise the link between social, historical, cultural, political, ideological and economic factors in national, regional, continental and international peace, security issues and developments.
