PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
A student who have achieved the outcomes for the Post-Graduate Diploma in Human Ecology as an exit qualification for the Master of Human Ecology has specialised knowledge and competence appropriate for teamwork in the development sector. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Students are required to have a Baccalaureus or an equivalent qualification with a major in the area of research.

EXIT LEVEL OUTCOMES 
A student will have developed competence in at least three or more of the following outcomes with regard to their specific field of research. The student should be able to:


1. Develop a conceptual framework where the impact of relationships, critical and gender issues of a political, social and economic nature, the related policies and theory can be studied and analysed with regard to programme management in the non-profit development sector.

2. Develop critical thinking and applied competence to practice community education and programme management in line with development goals that include production and consumptions of various goods and services.

3. Develop competence in the interpretation, analysis and presentation of data and with regard to sustainable household resource allocation, nutrition and community resource management to promote household food security and secure livelihoods.

4. Develop competence to assist the community in establishing projects and managing small and micro farming enterprises and/or home industries based on business principles and processes.

5. Demonstrate abilities to contribute to the improvement of the well-being of the population by participating in policy formulation as well as programme planning, implementation and evaluation based on the understanding of the underlying principles of the specialisation area.

6. Develop competence to utilise scientific knowledge and development processes to improve the well-being of individuals, families, households, communities and the population at large. 

ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
The student needs to develop competence in the critical outcomes, as well as the specific outcomes set for each module and thereby comply with the following assessment criteria:

1. Demonstrate the ability to plan a programme in the non-profit development sector.

2. Plan, practise and mange activities for community education in line with the developmental goals.

3. Collect, process, interpret, analyse and present data with regard to sustainable household resource allocation, nutrition and community resource management.

4. Establish projects and manage small and micro-enterprises based on business principles and processes - Draw up a business plan.

5. Interpret policy formulation for programme planning, implementation and evaluation

6. Demonstrate the ability to utilise scientific knowledge and technology to plan a project, adapt and/or develop appropriate technology.


INTEGRATED ASSESSMENT


Case studies and projects based on appropriate methodologies will be a basic requirement for all specialised modules. Assessment will be based on projects, case studies, oral and written examinations 

ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
Students who have attained 120 credits on NQF level 7.5 may be awarded a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Ecology endorsed with one of the approved specializations in which the student have specialised in for the B-Degrees. A student with a post-graduate diploma may enter the research phase for 120 credits after a period of delay not more than ten years. 

MODERATION OPTIONS 
Internal and external examiners appointed according to the Vista University rules. Internal Examiners should have at least a Masters degree in the specialization area. 

CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
A relevant post-graduate qualification in the specialization area of the research.
