PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION

1. To provide people who have already obtained a first baccalaureus or equivalent tertiary qualification in other than theological disciplines the opportunity to gain access to post-graduate training in Theology.
2. To provide qualifiers with knowledge, specific skills and applied competencies that will enable them to apply Theology in a specific field of church ministry, occupational life or community life.
3. To enhance the quality of service of church members both within the church and the community

Theology (e.g. Christian Ethics) and is able to apply this knowledge to a specific field of church ministry, occupational life or community life (e.g. doing business)

Critical cross-field outcomes for the M Phil (Applied Theology) programme include, but are not limited to:

Identifying and solving problems in which responses display that responsible decisions using critical and creative thinking have been made

Working effectively with others as a member of a team, group, organisation, community

The assessment criteria involve, at minimum, that:

both norm-based and criteria-based modalities are used to assess both knowledge and skills

reliability is ensured via internal and external moderation

the standards and levels of achievement required of "pegging" the qualification at NQF level 7 are met.
