PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The purpose of the qualification is;

* To provide graduate with academic and technical knowledge focused towards the chartered accounting board examination. Students successful with this diploma have other employment opportunities in the accounting profession, commerce and industry and the public sector.

The Bachelor of Accountancy graduate is able to:

* Acquire advanced levels of knowledge and skills in Financial Accountancy, Financial Management, Management Accounting, Taxation, Auditing and Information Technology to meet the requirements of the Accounting profession and a wide range of other potential employers

* Progress to positions in Business, Commerce and Industry. 

ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
Integrated assessment
  • Practical/simulated tutorials and seminar style examples and discussions are integrated with regular written tests and written examinations. These assessment procedures are designed to test the student's knowledge, understanding and application of multi-topical and multi-disciplinary questions. Although research is encouraged the primary emphasis of the Post-graduate diploma in Accountancy is to impart on the student knowledge and the ability to come to terms with accountancy problems of a real world nature. 

  • ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
    * The minimum syllabus and level knowledge, applicable and integration are determined by the educational committee of the Public Accountants' and Auditors' Board and/or the South African Institution of Chartered Accountants. All universities should be completely articulate in this respect. 

    MODERATION OPTIONS 
    * Public and Private sectors (commerce, industry, local and central government) Commerce, industry and the public sector have representatives on the professional bodies, ensuring direct and effective involvement of all stakeholders

    * The relevant professional bodies. The professional bodies communication their requirements on a continuing basis through the education requirements and pronouncements or standards. 

    CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
    The internal assessors are qualified University appointed staff in the various accounting disciplines.

    The external assessors are selected from either external full-time academia with equivalent or higher responsibility or practising accounting professionals.

    As per the SAQA Board decision/s at that time, this qualification was Reregistered in 2006.
