PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
To provide candidates in possession of a BComm qualification, with advanced knowledge and skills about various technical aspects of management sciences in order to promote sustainable growth and development and maximise prosperrity in all sectors of the economy and society

To develop competent leaders in the management sciences with advanced applied fundamental and generic cross-functional technical knowledge and skills to steer sustainable development, growth and prosperity in the most appropriate direction.

To provide students who want to enrol for more specialised studies in these disciplines, with a sound academic and research base from which to do so.

  • ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
    1. The assessment used for this qualification ensures that the purpose of the qualification is achieved.

    2. A range of formative and summative assessment methods such as simulations, assignments, workplace assessments, written and oral presentations, tests and examinations are used.

    3. The required range of modalities is used integratively to assess whether the specified outcomes have been achieved.

    4. From the assessment of samples generalising to a domain takes place in a judicious and planned way in order to ensure reliability

    5. The assessment used meets the standard and level of achievement for NQF level 7.

    Integrated assessment takes place by way of a variety of procedures including practically orientated cross-disciplinary individual and group assignments, simulations, workplace assessments, written and oral presentations, tests and examinations

    For the BCommHons degree; Horizontal articulation with other level 7 programmes in the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences or outside faculties is enhanced by the elective credits at each level.
    Vertical articulation into a MComm or MEcon in the different sub-disciplines of the management sciences is common at the university of Stellenbosch and students can also proceed to such honours programmes at most universities in South Africa. 

    MODERATION OPTIONS 
    The university of Stellenbosch has a system of external peer review and evaluation of departments. One of the aspects of the system is an evaluation of the standards and assessment practices of the department.
